If you would like a fish sandwich for religious reasons for lunch on Fridays, please call the office or the cafeteria.

Du Quoin Summer baseball and softball are looking for umpires for this summer.  Students interested should sign the list in the office.

State Senator Paul Schimpf is inviting students from across the 58th Senate District to participate in the 2019 “Inspired Southern Illinois” High School Art Competition. Participants are asked to create an original piece of artwork exploring the people, cultures, communities, landscapes that inspire you as residents of Southern Illinois. Participating students have the chance to showcase their talent and the opportunity for their artwork to be displayed at the Illinois State Capitol May 12 to May 17 in a special “Inspired Southern Illinois” gallery display honoring Southern Illinois. If interested, please request more information in the office.

Any student that is interested in Summer/Fall Registration for Nursing Assistant (CNA)-it will begin on April 1st.  Advisement appointments have started. To make an appointment, students should call the JALC Testing Office at 985-3741 x 8520

There are tickets for the Foundation Dinner for sale in the office.  Tickets are $15 each.

SENIORS:  Get your library fines paid ASAP!  If you are not sure if you owe anything, stop by the library to check and see, and also Mr. Summers has a list.

There are picture packet forms for spring sports available in the office.  Pictures will be taken March 28.

Southeast Health will be hosting a summer camp for high school students considering a career in health care.  Please see Mrs. Dean for more information.

Cheerleaders, please stop by Coach Geiger's room to pick up information concerning the calendar for next year. (2019-2020 cheerleaders)

FBLA members attending state will have a brief meeting during ELT today in the commons.  Please see Mrs. Woodsides if you are unable to attend.

There will be an Art Club meeting Thursday after school; we will continue working on projects for the art show.

Seniors:  Please stop by guidance and fill out the scholarship folder or turn in your list of the scholarships you have received to Mrs. Gross-Woodside.

Seniors: Once you have determined where you will be attending college please stop by guidance and sign the list stating where you want your FINAL transcript to be sent.  

Seniors who will attend John A. Logan this fall:  Tuesday, April 23rd we will attend the High School Orientation at John A. Logan. If you were absent Monday, March 25th and didn't sign up to attend in Government class you need to stop by the guidance office and sign up.  You have until Wednesday, April 10th to sign up.

SIU is offering a variety of summer youth camps.  If you are interested, stop by the office to pick up more information.

There will be a Student Council meeting Thursday at 7:45 a.m. in the Media Center.

Save the Date:  This Thursday, during ELT, we will be duct taping Mr. Miller in Anders Gym.  You won't want to miss it!!!! More details to come

Scholarship Section

The 2019-2020 John A. Logan College Scholarship Application through Academic Works is now available online. You must complete the application to be considered for scholarships that are administered through the JALC Foundation.  For a list of those scholarships and to apply, visit jalc.academicworks.com. Deadline for applying is Mid-April, 2019.

The James B. and Rosemary Samuel Childress Scholarship is available to a student planning to attend JALC and pursue a degree in the business field. Du Quoin High School will nominate two students. See Mrs. Gross-Woodside for information. Due by March 27, 2019.

Students planning to attend JALC and enroll in a STEM degree please inform Mrs. Gross-Woodside of their interest in the Altekruse Scholars Scholarship. Du Quoin High School will then nominate one student for this scholarship. Scholarship is due by March 27, 2019

The JALC Foundation will offer an Administrative Services Division Scholarship for $800.  The scholarship will be awarded to one high school senior graduating this spring from a public high school in the JALC district.  Du Quoin High School will nominate one student for consideration. To be considered, you must submit 2 letters of recommendation, your transcript and ACT scores, and any other forms of candidate endorsement to the guidance office by March 27, 2019.

The JALC Foundation will offer the Leon Striegel, DVM Veterinarian Scholarship for the 2019-2020 school year.  The $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior graduating this spring from a public high school in the JALC district. Applicants must be enrolled in the Pre-Professional Medicine Program (CIP Code 511199B) with intent to study Veterinary Medicine. Du Quoin High School will nominate one student for consideration. To be considered, you must submit 2 letters of recommendation, your transcript and ACT scores, and any other forms of candidate endorsement to the guidance office by March 27, 2019.

The JALC Foundation will offer a $1,000 Egyptian Contractors/O.M. Hudgens Scholarship for the 2019-2020 school year. This scholarship is available to one high school senior graduating from a public high school in the JALC district. The recipient must be enrolled at JALC and pursue a degree in Pre-Engineering or Construction Management Technology. Du Quoin High School will nominate one student for consideration. To be considered you must submit at least 2 letters of recommendation, your transcript and ACT scores, and any other forms of candidate endorsement to the guidance office by March 27, 2019.

Seniors:  The Gary Remer Memorial Scholarship is now available in the guidance office. This scholarship is intended for a senior with financial need. Preference will be given to a senior planning a career in Criminal Justice or related field. Please pick up an application if you meet the requirements. Scholarship deadline is April 19th.  

The Association of Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts (AISWCD) is currently accepting applications for the George McKibben Memorial Scholarship Award.  The scholarship is available to high school seniors who exhibit a demonstrable level of leadership, academic achievement, and commitment to soil and water conservation. Memorial Hospital of Carbondale's Auxiliary is once again sponsoring a Healthcare-Related Scholarship program.  To be considered for this scholarship you must be accepted into a Healthcare related program, such as ADN, BSN, Physical Therapy, etc., not pre-nursing, pre-med, pre-physical therapy, etc. All completed applications must be turned in no later than May 31, 2019.  

SIH (Southern Illinois Healthcare) is offering scholarship opportunities for nursing, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, medical lab tech, surgical tech, and health information management.  SIH is also offering a summer internship program for students interested in pursuing a degree in health care related fields.
