The Choices class will be selling Otis Spunkmeyer cookies during 5A lunch on Tuesdays and during 5B lunch on Thursdays.  All cookies are 50 cents each or 3 for $1.00. The first $300 in cookie sales will go to the Sarah Keltner family. For this week only, the Choices class will be selling cookies on Friday during 5B lunch instead of Thursday.

Juniors and Seniors:  A representative from McKendree will be at DHS today at 9 am.  Sign the list in guidance if you are interested in attending. McKendree is a private liberal arts university located in Lebanon, Illinois.

Seniors: Applications are now open for 2019 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, honoring students making meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service.  If you do volunteer service and would like to apply you may access the application at spirit.prudential.com. Deadline is November 6, 2018.

The 2018-2018 Pep Club would like to invite you to Du Quoin’s Hollywood Spectacular (D.H.S.) homecoming dance! Tickets will go on sale September 18th. Make plans to join us!

Pep Club members, there will be a meeting to discuss homecoming week on Friday, September 14th during ELT in the auditorium. Please make sure you can attend.

American Red Cross Facts about blood donation:

A single blood donation can save up to three lives!!!

  • Every 2 seconds, someone in the US needs blood.  1 in 10 people entering the hospital need blood.  The average transfusion uses 3.4 pints of blood.

  • A newborn baby has about one cup of blood in its body.  An average adult body contains 10-12 pints of blood.  A person can donate 5-6 times a year.

  • However, most people only donate about 1.4 times a year.  Around 97% of us will need blood sometime in our life, but only 5% of medically eligible people donate blood.

You can make a difference the whole year through.  Someone’s life could depend upon your donation.

Seniors:  New scholarship opportunity.  TEACH Outdoors, Inc. is awarding two educational scholarships for the 2019-2020 school year. Joyce Betz Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1000.00 and a second  TEACH Outdoors, Inc. with an award of $500. The scholarship will be awarded directly to a student who is furthering his or her education by attending college, a university or trade school. All applicants received will be considered for this award. Please check guidance for more information on requirements.

FCCLA--Congratulations to the officers for 2018--2019!  President--Jacquline Crain, Vice-President--Katie Smith, Secretary--Isabella Hirsch, Treasurer--Madison Davis, Executive Council members--Megan Dale, Braylyn Funk and Chloe Hess.   

Reminder for FCCLA members--Rada orders are due no later than September 21st.  All money should be collected and turned in with your orders.

Congratulations to the following JUNIOR class officers: President- Alex Zimmerman; Vice President- AJ Rice; Secretary- Vianey Sanchez; Treasurer- Ethan Sheppard.  Class representatives include Shelby Harris, Emee Darnell, Maddie Cornett, and Chloe Hess.

Juniors, please stop in the commons today during ELT to vote on a homecoming billboard theme.  

There will be an engineering club meeting @ 7:15 a.m. Wednesday in Mr. Jones’ room.

Freshman class officers and representatives will meet September 12th at 7:35 in Mrs. Miller's classroom.  

There will be a Spanish Club meeting Thursday morning in Spanish classroom 209 at 7:30 a.m.  T-shirt orders and activities will be discussed.

FCCLA members--If you have someone that lives away from here and would like to purchase Rada--FCCLA has a website where they may do that and have it shipped to them.  If you would be interested in that website to share--please stop by the FACS room and pick up the website from Mrs. Stacey.

Art Club meeting Thursday after school. T-shirt designs are due on this day, we will vote for this year's t-shirt at the meeting. Also we will stay after for our art day until 4:15. Canvases are $1 and $2 to purchase from Ms. Collins.
