Du Quoin Elementary families,

Believe it or not, we do finish reading Rump this week. Have you enjoyed our One School, One Book selection this year?  The schedule continues with chapter 31 tonight and finishing Thursday with chapter 32 and the epilogue. I do love how the book ends with a reminder that our "names are powerful and so is destiny, but a person's will is more powerful than both put together." Watch for more from DES as we explore that important question of what our future holds.

I want to thank everyone for their support of our first week of the Kids Heart Challenge. The students are enjoying special activities and lessons on healthy hearts and how to help others in our community. Our program will continue the week after we return from spring break and includes the following theme days:

Mon., Mar. 8 - Fri., Mar. 12 - Spring Break - No School
Monday, March 15 - Favorite Team Day
Tuesday, March 16 - Disney or Superhero Day - dress as your favorite Disney and/or superhero
Wednesday, March 17 - Go Green Day - wear as much green as possible
Thursday, March 18 - Patriotic Day - wear red, white and blue

Hopefully you have read  the District newsletter with the information about 4th quarter and our switch to in person learning 5 days. This will begin the week of March 22nd. With this change, and the end of our remote learning days for the final quarter, we will asking for the return of the loaned technology devices. If you have a rented a Chromebook or Wi-fi device, we need those returned following the schedule below so we can process them in a timely manner:

Mon., Mar. 15 - 3rd Grade

Tues., Mar. 16 - 4th Grade

Wed., Mar. 17 - Kindergarten and 1st Grade

Thurs., Mar. 18 - 2nd Grade

If you have students in multiple grades and want to send the devices on the same day, that will be fine also. Since we are returning devices, students will not have a Google Meeting with their teacher on Friday, March 19th. Teachers will send "at home" work to complete and will be available throughout the day for help or questions.

Finally we are excited to share the National School Breakfast week will be held March 15 - 19. We will have special breakfast each day, including donuts, waffles, parfaits and more. Check out the announcement and breakfast choices here.

We hope you and your family will have an enjoyable spring break next week. Remember to read something everyday and we will see our students back at school on March 15 to finish our school year!

With Papoose Pride,

Diana Rea, Principal
