District 300

8/7/20

Hello all,

Today we want to share out some additional information specifically regarding our meal program for the 2020-2021 school year. Before I do that, I must thank our Food Service Director Donna Lively and her staff for their tireless efforts last spring during the school closure and through the recent summer months. Hundreds and hundreds of meals have been provided to families since the pandemic began thanks to their work.

This brings me to the first point. Up until now, since the pandemic began, we were able to offer meals to all students/families at no charge. This was the result of opportunities made available through the federal and state government entities that fund and oversee school food programs. As we start the school year, those opportunities are not being offered to school districts. As a result, our meal program will be operating as it would normally in terms of cost to families. Those families that qualify for free or reduced meals will continue to receive those benefits. Our meal program prices will be as follows:

  • Breakfast = $1.00
  • Reduced price breakfast = $0.30
  • Lunch K-4 = $1.75
  • Lunch 5-12 = $2.00
  • Reduce price lunch = $0.40
  • Extra milk = $0.25

Payments for meals may be made in advance through school offices or made online through TeacherEase. Please be aware that payments made online include a processing fee. This fee is not from District 300, but is charged by the third-party who processes the fee on our behalf.

Families needing assistance in supplying meals for their children are encouraged to fill out an application for free/reduced meals. Applications are available in each school office.

Meals will be available to students each day of school regardless of whether they are attending in-person or are participating in remote learning. Full-time remote learners will be provided information on when/where meals may be picked up as soon as we finalize the details. Students participating in the blended schedule will have the opportunity to receive meals while at school. With the recent change in the blended schedule, for those students attending in-person, a mid-morning snack will also be provided to all students in attendance at no charge.

District 300 understands the importance of our meal program for our students and we believe it to be not only an integral part of students' physical well-being, but also of their educational experience. We look forward to starting the program for the 2020-2021 school year on August 17th.

We hope everyone has a good, safe weekend. Thank you
