DES Families,

It has been a good first few weeks to start this new school year. We appreciate all the parents and families working collaboratively with us as we navigate new procedures and policy. Please be patient as we continue to improve our practices to make your job easier. This is a learning curve for all of us. Below are a few reminders and clarifications:

  • Remote Learning Days: On the days your student is working remotely, the assignments should engage your student in work for 2 - 2.5 hours. On in person days at school students are being directed concerning the work they need to complete to be ready for the next in school learning day. Full time remote learners are receiving this information during their Google Meet teaching session in the afternoons. Students must complete the assigned work on remote learning days in addition to the in person assignments.
  • Remote Fridays: All students participate in the Google Meet sessions on Friday at the time specified by your teacher. These times are required as part of our school week and students must participate to gain necessary learning for the daily work and upcoming week assignments.
  • Google Meets: The Google Meets scheduled sessions are required of all students and participation will be recorded toward a student's academic progress in their classes.

Please contact your teacher or me if you are needing support.

  • School Meals: We serve breakfast in the classrooms each morning from 7:30 - 8:00 AM and provide a lunch at dismissal if requested. These meals are available to all students daily. Please discuss with your student the breakfast and lunch options and guide them on participating in these meals. If you are looking for a menu, those are always available on our website at  https://www.duquoinschools.org/dining. You can also find them on the Du Quoin School app, available for download from your Google and Apple app stores.

As a reminder, Monday, Sept. 7 is Labor Day, a school holiday. Students do not have remote learning to complete on this day and we will not have in person classes. We wish an enjoyable weekend to all our students and families and are here to support you as we continue to build opportunities for all our students to learn and grow.

With Papoose Pride,
