District 300

Dear District 300 parents/guardians,

I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well. As you may have heard,  recently the Illinois State Board of Education released guidance for schools to open the 2020-21 school year.

This document was much anticipated and has helped us answer critical questions  about what the 2020-21 school year could look like in terms of in-person learning, scheduling, transportation, wearing masks, social distancing and other measures intended to keep everyone safe and healthy, while also re-engaging students in the learning process.

Right now, we don’t have all the answers to those questions. Our administrators and our District Leadership Team are working to develop plans. Therefore, we kindly ask for your patience as our staff thoroughly reviews the guidance and implements the suggestions into our district’s own transition plan.

Our Board of Education and administration are aware of the urgent need to communicate to families about what to expect next school year and will be releasing our own transition plan later this month.

Our District has been discussing options over the past few weeks. The guidance we continue to receive will accelerate those conversations, and I’m confident our district can put forth a plan that prioritizes the health and safety of our students while maintaining an effective learning environment.

To assist in our planning, I will be sharing out a survey which we would like all parents/guardians to complete. Your responses will help us as move forward in our planning process.

For our parents of 2020’s 8th graders and senior class, we have developed a plan to conduct ceremonies to recognize these students which is scheduled for Friday, July 24th for the 8th grade class and Saturday, July 25th for the senior class. Our current plan is designed for Phase 4, but can be modified if circumstances in our community change over the next few weeks. You will be receiving more specific information from your building administrators in the very near future regarding these events.

Thank you again for your patience, understanding, and flexibility as our entire district continues to navigate a situation together that none of us could have imagined.

I will be in touch soon. In the meantime, stay safe and enjoy your summer.

Sincerely,
