Papoose Mascot

Dear DES Families,

Very soon we will be starting our One School, One Book program, an all-school DES book club! Every student will receive a copy of the same title of the selected book at a special school-wide assembly introducing our program and the book. Along with the book, you will receive a reading schedule so that you can keep up at home. Generally, you will be asked to read about 15 minutes each night, so we suggest using it as your bedtime story during the program. No worries if you miss a day or two, we will also read the selection in class the following day. This is our 3rd year in the program and we’re so excited to get started.

Reading a book together brings the added joy of building and expanding a sense of community among students, parents, teachers, and staff. I am personally asking you to make the time so that your family can participate in this special activity. The book title is currently a huge secret and will be announced at our all school assembly and book distribution.  When an entire school reads the same book, the buzz and excitement around the book augments these benefits. With the One School, One Book program, our goal is to build a Community of Readers at our school, that includes everyone–students, parents, teachers, support staff and I will all be following along together.
