Welcome to the next ten days of happenings at Du Quoin High School. On Thursday, March 18, a group of students involved in Youth in Government will make their annual trek to Springfield to take over the capitol for the weekend. Students from across the state will set up a mock government at the actual Capitol Building in Springfield. Some 14 students from Du Quoin will participate. Sponsored by Mrs. Sarah Geiger with help from Mr. Ryan Summers, the group will leave Thursday after school.
Girls Lady Indians softball and boys Indian baseball fire up their schedule this week. The girls open on Saturday, March 20, with a double-header at Marissa. On Monday, March 22, the girls go to Mt. Vernon and the following day they head to Goreville. On Wednesday the Lady Indians open their home schedule with a game versus West Frankfort and continue the home stand on Friday, March 26, by hosting Lebanon in a double-header. Saturday finds the ladies at Marion for the Marion Tournament.
Boys baseball opens on Saturday, March 20, hosting the Herrin Tigers. On Monday, March 22 the Indians travel to Goreville. On Saturday, March 27, the Indians travel to South Central (near Kinmundy) for a double-header.
The winter banquet to honor athletes from the winter sports seasons will be held on Thursday, March 25. Details will be provided in an article to be published later this week.
The Future Business Leaders of America, sponsored by Mrs. Denise Woodside, will be traveling 27 students strong to the FBLA State Convention in Decatur, Illinois at the conference center. Students will leave on Thursday, March 25, after school and will return on Saturday. State FBLA President Neil Patel will lead the Du Quoin contingent.
