Middle School: ISAT Practice

ISAT Practice

Students at DMS participate in a variety of activities designed to prepare them for the ISAT.  The ISAT is the Illinois Standards Achievement Test that is given annually to students in 3rd through 8th grades.  They are tested in reading and math in all grades.  Students are tested in science in 4th and 7th grade and writing in 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 8th grades.  The ISAT will be given annually in early March.

In order to prepare our students for the ISAT, we have developed a variety of preparation activities.  Students begin the school year taking sample tests in class, using a web based program called Study Island, and using teacher designed preparation materials.  These materials and activities are used with greater frequency as the ISAT testing dates grow nearer.

We have seen a significant increase in the total number of student who meet or exceed on the ISAT since we have begun this preparation program.  Overall, DMS has raised the total percentage of students who meet or exceed by over 20% in the past five years.  We are very proud of the work our students and teachers have done in this area.  At this time, just over 82% of our students meet or exceed the State Standards in reading and math.
