FEBRUARY

First generation students (students whose parents have no education beyond high school) at SIUC may be eligible for the First Scholars Program scholarship. Beginning Fall 2011, 20 scholarships of $5,000 each will be funded by the Suder Foundation. Students must be admitted to SIUC, live in IL (or one of our border states) and have their FAFSA filed prior to February 1, 2012 to be considered for the First Scholars Program scholarship. Elks Legacy Award:  Any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2009, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2009, is eligible to apply.  The Selection Committee judges applications based on:  Knowledge, Charity, Community, & Integrity.  MUST apply on line at http://www.elks.org/enf/scholars/legacy.cfm .  Deadline:  12:00 p.m. (noon) Central Standard Time on February 1, 2012.

Eastern Illinois University Honors Scholarships:  $2,000 award.  Senior with 26 ACT and top 10% or 3.5 GPA.  For an application & more info, go to www.eiu.edu/~honprog.  Deadline:  February 1st

Elks Legacy Awards:  Senior who is a child or grandchild of a paid-up member of the Elks organization.  Pick up an application in guidance or go online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars.   Deadline:  February 1st

Community Bankers Association of Illinois:  13 scholarships to top high school seniors statewide.  Must write an essay about banking.  For more info & the topic for this year, go to www.cbai.com or   http://www.cbai.com/#/Foundation/AnnualEssayScholarshipProgram/.  Deadline:  February 7th

KFC Colonel’s Scholars:  Senior who will enroll in a public college or university in Illinois.  Must have a 2.75 GPA & demonstrate financial need.  Complete the application online at www.kfcscholars.org.  Deadline:  February 8th

National FFA Organization:  Senior FFA members planning to attend a post-secondary institution full-time in an agriculture field.  There are various scholarships in the booklet.  Some are for FFA members/some are for non-members.  Applications are available online at www.ffa.org or  https://www.ffa.org/programs/grantsandscholarships/Scholarships/Pages/default.aspx#.  Deadline:  February 15th

Baptist Foundation Illinois (BFI) Scholarships:  Opportunity to apply to receive scholarships through the generous endowment gifts of other Illinois Baptists.  Applicants must be in good standing with an IBSA church and attending an accredited school.  Community college awards are $750, university awards are $1250.  Application must be completed on line at www.baptistfoundationIL.org.  Deadline is February 15th.

IBSA Baptist Scholarships:  Senior who is a member of a Baptist church affiliated with the Illinois Baptist State Association.  Must have financial need and demonstrate the potential for Christian leadership & service.  Website:  www.ibsa.org/ministries/baptistfoundation.   Deadline:  February 26th

Sara Stubblefield Scholarship will be offered to a high school senior living in Illinois that has epilepsy and is under the care of a physician.  The award is a one-year $2,000 grant. Stop in guidance for more information.  Deadline is April 30th.

IL PTA Education Scholarships: $1000 and $500 scholarships will be awarded to students within 19 IL districts. Student must be in upper 25% of class and major in field of education. Applications available in guidance or at:  http://www.illinoispta.org/Scholarship/ScholarshipApplication2011-2012.pdf .  Deadline: February 17th.

Fred S. Bailey Scholarship- This $3,000 scholarship is available to any senior that plans to attend the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign.  The applicant should be committed to service, spirituality, and social and environmental justice.  Apply online at www.universityymca.org/bailey.  Deadline to apply is February 28th.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program-This scholarship is for seniors planning to enroll at a four-year college or university that plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry.  Apply online at www.buickachievers.com.  Deadline is February 29.

Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs:  $1,000-$1,500 scholarships are available to Illinois high school seniors.  Applicants need not be affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.  Informational packets are available in guidance or at http://www.ioof-il.org.  DeadlineMarch 1st

U.S. Bank Scholarship Program- Forty $1,000 scholarships are available to seniors who will be attending a U.S. Bank Student Loan eligible four-year college or university.  Winners are selected at random so EVERYONE should apply!  Applications can be found at usbank.com/scholarship

Illinois Chemical Education Foundation Scholarships:  Senior who will attend a college in Illinois.  Must major in chemistry, chemical engineering, or environmental engineering.  Website:  www.cicil.net.  Deadline March  2nd - postmarked

AMVETS Scholarship Programs:  Seniors.  Various scholarships available in different areas (read the list in the scholarship folder).  For most awards, you must be or priority is given to children or grandchildren of a veteran.  Can be downloaded at www.ilamvets.org.  Deadline:  March 1st

National Defense Transportation Association:  Seniors or college students who are enrolled in a degree program related to business, transportation logistics or physical distribution.  See brochure for a list or go on-line at www.ndtascottstlouis.org.  Deadline:  March 1st

MARCH

Alongi Legacy/SIUC Scholarship:  Senior from Perry County who will attend SIUC.  Employees of Alongi’s are given special consideration.  Must have financial need.  Can be downloaded at:  www.siuc.edu/~fao/   Deadline:  March 2nd – received in their office.

Perry County SIUC Alumni Scholarship:  Senior from Perry County who will attend SIUC.  Must have a GPA of “B” or better and financial need.  Can be downloaded at:  www.siuc.edu/~fao/   Deadline:  March 2nd  – received in their office.

John A. Logan College Foundation:  Seniors going to Logan.  One application form makes you eligible for many, many JALC scholarships.  Applications can be completed now –the sooner your application is turned in, the more awards you are eligible for.  Be sure to send letters of recommendation with the application. The easiest way to complete this one is online at www.jalc.edu.  Go to the Prospective Student tab, and then click Scholarship Information and then the Scholarship Application.  You can also pick up a paper copy in the guidance office.

Illinois Elks Children’s Care Program Scholarship:  Senior planning to major in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy.  Students can apply online at www.iea-ccc.info or www.iea-ieccc.info or stop by guidance for more information.  Application must be returned to Du Quoin Elks by March 9th, 2012.

Illinois Division of Sons of Confederate Veterans Illinois Society, Military Order of Stars & Bars:  $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior, male or female.  Student must be a descendant of a male who served honorably in the Army, Navy, Judicial, Executive, or Civil Service of the Confederate States of America.  Lineal or collateral family lines must be documented genealogically with a descendency chart.  500 word essay required.  The topic of the essay shall deal with an event, person, philosophy, or ideal associated with such cause during the War Between the States.  Deadline:  March 15, 2012.

Perry County Home and Community Education Association Scholarships:  Two $500 scholarships are available to a senior student pursuing a degree in Agriculture or Consumer and Environmental Sciences.  For more information please stop by the guidance office.  Deadline is April 1st- postmarked.

APRIL

Southern Illinois Healthcare Scholarships:  Seniors who plan to enter designated health career areas such as Health Information Technology, Medical Lab Technician, Radiologic Technologist, Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, Surgical Technologist, Physical Therapist.  SIH will pay for up to 2 years & you must then work 2 years at an SIH hospital.  Apply at www.sih.net/careers.  Deadline:  April 30th, but the sooner the better!

General Assembly Scholarship:  This $1,000 scholarship is offered to any senior student that plans to attend a public 4-year university.  You can pick up an application in the guidance office.  Deadline is April 30, 2012.

Southern Illinois University-Carbondale

Southern Illinois University also offers scholarships for incoming freshman including: 

The presidential Scholarship, Application deadline:  December 15th, 2011

  • SIUC Academic Scholarship, you are automatically considered when you apply.  APPLY EARLY!
  • Diversity Scholarship, Begins December 1st and runs until all funds are exhausted.
  • Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholarship, Deadline June 15th, 2012

Departmental scholarships are also awarded at SIU-C each year to new and current students by the various Colleges across campus.  Students who have chosen a major are encouraged to contact the department in their academic area of study regarding scholarship opportunities.  For example:

Southern Illinois University College of Engineering:  Seniors who plan to major in engineering at SIU-C may qualify for a $1,000 scholarship.

Scholarships for any High School Student

FEBRUARY

Best Buy @ 15 Scholarship:  Any high school student who has a 2.5 GPA.  Must demonstrate commitment to & involvement in volunteer community service or work experience.  Must plan to enter a 2-year or 4-year college in the fall after high school graduation. Must apply online at www.bestbuy.com (then click on Community Relations) or at www.at15.com.  Online application will be available starting in January.  Deadline:  February 15th

Toyota Community Scholars Program awards 100 renewable scholarships valued at $10,000 and $20,000 over four years to outstanding seniors. You must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), be actively involved in a service organization or project that has a positive impact on the school or community, be a U.S. citizen, and plan to pursue an undergraduate degree. Application is available at www.toyota.com/communityscholars. Deadline is February 28th.

American Essay Contest- Available to any high school student.  For an informational brochure go to www.illegion.org and click on “Forms.”  Deadline is February 3rd, 2012.

Knight Essay Contest:  Sophomore, junior, or senior.  Student writes an 800-1,200 word essay.  The topic of the essay will deal with an event, person, philosophy, or ideal associated with the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, or the framing of the United States Constitution.  For more information go to www.sar.org.  scroll down through education/youth and then Knight Essay Contest.  Deadline:  February 15th-mail to the local SAR chapter.

MARCH

Ayn Rand Essay Contests:  For 9th & 10th graders- read Anthem & enter by March 2012.  For 11th & 12 graders- read The Fountainhead & enter by April 2012.  Go online for instructions & topics at www.aynrand.org/contests or see guidance.

Murray State University Commonwealth Honors Academy for Juniors:  This academy is for 95 gifted high school juniors.  Students will attend Murray State from June 9 through June 30, 2012.  Students will receive 6 hours of university studies credit (tuition free) and will be awarded a four-year $2,000 per year housing scholarship to Murray State Universtiy.  Criteria are:  completed the junior year, an ACT of approximately 25 (or equivalent on the SAT, PSAT, or PLAN), and a 3.5 GPA.  They also will look at community involvement, class rank, & teacher recommendation.  See guidance for an application or download one at www.murraystate.edu/cha.  Deadline:  March 1st postmarked.

Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarships:  Students ages 6-18 with several categories based on age.  Student must have completed a volunteer activity in the past 12 months.  For an application go online at www.kohlskidswhocare.com or www.kohlskids.com.  Student must be nominated online.  Deadline:  March 15th.

APRIL

SAR Rumbauth Historical Oration Contest:  Sophomore, junior, or senior.  Submit a 5-6 minute oration on a particular topic in history (see topics in application packet).  For information go to www.sar.org. Scroll down to Education/Youth and then click on Rumbaugh Historical Oration.  Deadline:  April 1st (Postmarked).  Mail to the local SAR Chapter.

Holocaust Remembrance Project:  Any high school student.  Submit a 1,200 word essay on-line at www.holocaust.hklwa.com/2012/index.asp.  Due April 19th, 2012 (Received in their office).
