Fifth Annual Educational Foundation Dinner A Great Success

The Fifth Annual District #300 Educational Foundation dinner event was held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 in the K-8 School Commons.  The evening was attended by approximately 280 people who were there to honor DuQuoin High School seniors who were receiving scholarship awards and to honor four alumni through the Educational Foundation Recognition Program.

In all 48 scholarships were awarded to 38 high school senior students totaling over $40,000 not including potential matching funds through the “Dollars For Scholars” program. Scholarships were funded by 20 different organizations or individuals with the Foundation providing 24 scholarship awards.  The dinner event program also included the recognizing those individuals, groups, organizations, or businesses that support the Foundation through the Foundation donor program or through contributions and sponsorships of the Foundation’s annual golf scramble fundraiser event.

The Foundation Recognition program portion of the event was highlighted by recognizing 4 individuals who were graduates of DuQuoin Township High School.  The Excellence in Achievement Award was given to Don Moss who was a member of the DTHS Class of 1954.  Fred Huff a 1946 DTHS alumnus was given the Outstanding Community Service Award.  Judy Rice Cernkovich a member of the Class of 1965 was posthumously recognized as the recipient of the Foundation’s Quality in Education Award.  Galen Davis a member of the DTHS Class of 1942 was recognized as the recipient of this year’s Distinguished Service Award.
