FFA Members to State FFA Convention 09
by Robert Huntley
Seven Du Quoin FFA members travel to Springfield to attend the 81st Illinois State FFA Convention. While in attendance members were escorted across the convention stage to receive their National Program of Activities Award Certificate. Several of our students were recognized for being chapter delegates, chapter officers and for attending the Illinois Made For Excellence Conference this past Winter.
While in the home of our state capital students attended at least one convention session per day. For some the visit to the New President Lincoln Museum was a first. Students also toured the site where Abraham Lincoln spent part of his late teen years as a young man. The New Salem Park afforded students to opportunity to look into president Lincoln's past as he explored career choices that failed prior to his political success.
Springfield also provided the members the opportunity to meet other FFA members from across the state while at the annual FFA dance at the State Fairground during the first day of the convention. Members also enjoyed playing golf, swimming at the Knights Action Water park and dinning at local restaurants.
