P.E. Curriculum

Physical Education

Credit:  1 per year

Prerequisite:  none

Grades: 9-12

** Required by Illinois Law

Students take 2 years of physical education.  This is 1 credit per year of PE.  Students are allowed to earn only a total of 4 credits of PE during the four years of high school.

The PE class is designed to promote a healthy body while exposing students to different sports, in which they can participate outside of school in general everyday living.  Class begins with calisthenics, followed by activities in three week blocks.  Basic rules and skills are presented for activities.  The following is a list of activities for each term:

1st Quarter: Archery, Flag Football, Softball

2nd Quarter: Indoor Tennis, Ping Pong, Volleyball

3rd Quarter: Badminton, Bowling, Physical Fitness Testing

4th Quarter: Golf, Tennis, Geocaching

In compliance with the State Law, no one is exempt from taking Physical Education.  Participation is required unless the student brings a statement from a doctor stating the limitation and type of activity the student may participate to earn credit in physical education.  Provisions are usually made to take care of special cases.  By filling out the proper waiver form, the 11th and 12th grade students may be exempt from taking PE.
