Foundation Mini-Grant Awards for Spring 2012

The District #300 Educational Foundation during the spring of this school year awarded 9 mini-grants from applications received from various district staff members. The District #300 Educational Foundation mini-grant program was established to enhance, enrich, or supplement learning opportunities for students; promote student development and raise student achievement; encourage active student participation and activities; and promote active participation in the schools by community leaders. The following is a summary of the 9 grants awarded through the Foundation’s spring 2012 mini-grant application process.
-Bob Huntley, an Agriculture Teacher at DuQuoin High School received a mini-grant award in the amount of $151.73 to fund an applied technology tour day field trip to John A. Logan College in order to participate in a number of hands-on technology activities.
-Rebecca McCrary, a Foreign Language Teacher at DuQuoin High School received a mini-grant award for $250.00 for fund a foreign language day field trip to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale to participate in a number of foreign language/cultural opportunities.
-Bob Johnson, a Science Teacher at DuQuoin Middle School was awarded a mini-grant in the amount of $300.00 to provide funding for the construction of a greenhouse for use as an additional learning environment for middle school science classes.
-Candace Manning, an Art Teacher at DuQuoin Middle School received an mini-grant award in the amount of $384.94 to purchase a digital camera to be used for various photography projects within the art curriculum at the middle school level.
-Kelly Zurliene, a Language Arts Teacher at DuQuoin Middle School received a mini-grant award of $200.00 to purchase books as a means to provide various options of reading to enhance the literacy skills of students and to expose students to various genres of reading materials.
-The fourth grade staff at DuQuoin Elementary School received a mini-grant for $209.58 to provide funds for a field trip to the Rend Lake Visitor’s Center to learn about various outdoor activities available in Southern Illinois.
-Kim Loyd, 3rd Grade Teacher at DuQuoin Elementary School received a mini-grant award for $500 on behalf of the Third Grade classrooms at the elementary school for a field trip to the St. Louis Zoo. The field trip experience will assist in supporting the various science concepts and facts taught at the 3rd grade level.
-Rachel Tilley, a 2nd Grade Teacher at DuQuoin Elementary School was awarded a mini-grant in the amount of $360.00 to provide funds for a field trip to the Cedarhurst Center For The Arts and Jefferson County Historical Village. The field trip will be used to support and reinforce concepts learned through the 2nd grade social studies curriculum.
-Darcy Gossett, a 1st Grade Teacher at DuQuoin Elementary School received $207.04 on behalf of the 1st Grade to fund field trips to the Marion Cultural and Civic Center and the Carbondale Science Center. The field trips will provide a fine arts, cultural, and scientific inquiry experience for all students in 1st grade.
These mini-grant awards culminate the fifth school year the District #300 Educational Foundation has given classroom or project grants for those staff members who apply through the mini-grant application process. The District #300 Educational Foundation thanks those individuals and business who are “Investing In Our Future” and support the activities of the Foundation.
